As a proactive catalyst of development, PCCI promotes and supports the drive for globally competitive Philippine enterprises in partnership with government, local chambers, and other business organizations.
Mission
The main responsibility of PCCI is to provide focused advocacy for business growth and sustainable development by providing business services for the advancement of grassroots entrepreneurship, chamber development, international trade relations, business innovation and excellence, and operating efficiency. These will be achieved through a professional organization working in close cooperation with various stakeholders in public and private sectors.
PCCI Dialogues with DOLE
Upskilling of workers needed for 4.0 and the Innovation Nation
Preparing the workforce for Industry 4.0 and Innovation Nation through re-skilling is a priority as the country gears for Industry 4.0 and create the Innovation Nation. This was the conclusion of the meeting between officers of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) led by Amb. Benedicto Yujuico, and officials of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) led by Secretary Silvestre Bello, III.
Highlighting innovation as the thrust of his leadership, Amb. Yujuico reported that PCCI recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on skills development and will be working with TESDA and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on establishing Centers of Innovation in the country. Sec. Bello said such initiative supports the Industry 4.0 roadmap where DOLE is likewise working with the DTI and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on the skills enhancement aspect of the roadmap. Sec. Bello invited PCCI to support and join its Labor Day activities. Particularly because this year’s celebration will focus on innovation and the Industry 4.0, PCCI should be part of the program as speaker and participate in the jobs and business fair called “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan. Sec. Bello stressed that management presence on labor day should be more pronounced.
Ensuring industrial peace
The meeting also discussed how to find the middle ground on labor and social policy issues. Hearing the concerns of the business leaders on the Security of Tenure bill now being heard at the House of Representatives, Sec. Bello said the government-sponsored bill is still under review as government also wants to ensure that the law balance the needs of the labor and business sectors.
Mr. Sergio Ortiz-Luis, Jr., PCCI’s Director for Corporate Social Responsibility who is also President of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) assured DOLE of the the business sector’s commitment to the promotion of workers’ welfare citing ECOP’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) advocacies and programs. ECOP, he said is already rolling out OSH capacity-building activities for its members.
Jobs for Batangas and repatriated workers
Mr. Ortiz added that PCCI is working with its members to provide jobs for some displaced workers in Batangas. Amb. Yujuico committed to also help find jobs for workers repatriated from the Middle East who are mostly in construction. DOLE will be providing PCCI the list of the repatriated workers.
