The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), represented by immediate past Chair Ma. Alegria Sibal-Limjoco, officially pledged its commitment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) during the inaugural ceremony of the Stakeholders’ Chamber on the SDGs on April 7, 2022.
PCCI is selected as one of the 42 official members of the Stakeholders’ Chamber which was created by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Subcommittee on SDGs. The Stakeholders’ Chamber is envisioned as a platform of engagement between government and non-government actors for better resource management and coordination to achieve the SDG targets and goals.
According to NEDA, it aims to promote a whole-of-society approach to strengthen the linkages between government and non-government agencies and organizations, development priorities, and resource allocation to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Being a member, PCCI will have the needed boost in promoting and advocating the SDGs in the business sector.
The Stakeholders’ Chamber members will be clustered into major pillars of SDGs namely, (1) Social, (2) Economic, (3) Environment, and (4) Peace, Security and Governance. PCCI is waiting for the announcement of NEDA on which cluster it will join.
The SDGs are a universal call to action to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice for a better and more sustainable future while leaving no one behind by 2030. As an alignment, the Philippines pegged its Development Plan as “Ambisyon Natin 2040” which is a collective long-term vision and aspirations of Filipinos for a “matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay”.
Understanding the crucial role of the business sector to achieve the Goals, PCCI created a dedicated committee to align its advocacies and programs to the development priorities of SDGs.
