Aiming to make full use of satellite communication services internet to provide internet access “at the price of a Jollibee meal”, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Transpacific Broadband Group International Inc. (TBGI) and Sky and Space Co (SAS) met to discuss possible partnership in providing broadband connectivity for geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) within the Philippines.

 

TBGI Vice President, Mr. Paul B. Saria presented the multiple projects TBGI has developed in partnership with Kacific, Airspace and BBS.  He said that TBGI has helped banks, schools, and local governments in rural areas hook up to satellites to access the internet.

 

Mr. Yaron Schwartz of Sky and Space Co (SAS) shared that their plan of action has two phases. Phase 1 includes 8-16 nanosatellites with study cases on remote assets monitoring, utilities, smart agriculture, forestry, and railway.  Phase 2 will amount to 96 satellites which SAS aims to achieve by 2024.  The study cases include maritime, logistics, railway, and disaster management.

 

SAS is the first company to successfully build a low-earth-orbit commercial telecommunications network using nanosatellite technology.  This is Israeli satellite company provides communications infrastructure and services and software systems that support space-based global communication networks. --- Anya Marie Cruz
