The Philippine business community welcomed the appointment of the new members of the cabinet of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos who will soon assume key and relevant positions in government.

 

“We congratulate the newly-named cabinet secretaries on their well-deserved appointments. It’s refreshing to see new names and faces of public servants joining the government of President Marcos Jr. We trust they would perform well in carrying out their functions to serve the people and the nation,” said George T. Barcelon, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

 

The appointment of Benhur Abalos, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Bienvenido Laguesma, Department of Labor and Employment; and, Atty. Ivan John Uy, Department of Information, Communications and Telecommunication (DICT) all come with experiences and well established credentials. The PCCI is happy that one came from its rank, Mr. Ivan John Enrile Uy who is PCCI’s Corporate Secretary and Chair of the Philippine Business Conference Resolutions Committee. He is knowledgeable and competent for having previously worked at the then-Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CIT) and have implemented IT systems in government offices.

 

“Atty. Ivan’s background and track record speak well of his competence and ability. We are confident that he would deliver as the DICT secretary the much needed improvement on internet connectivity in the country. “The access to the internet (WF broadband) is especially important at this time where everything is shifting to digital, such as e-learning and e-commerce. To have him at the helm for this endeavor is very assuring.” Barcelon added

 

The PCCI head also commended the appointment of Abalos, hailing his good leadership as a local executive and chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). His participation with the IATF team brought a balanced focus on the well being of lives and livelihood to sustain our economy.

 

Barcelon also lauded Marcos for naming Laguesma as Labor Secretary. He said Laguesma’s credentials make him worthy of the job. “He’s attuned with the issues having been past secretary of Labor focusing on industrial peace and job creation,” Barcelon said.

 

As to the other keys agencies’ appointment; Erwin Tulfo, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Amenah Pangandaman, Department of Budget and Management (DBM); Ma. Christina Frasco, Department of Tourism (DOT); Naida Angping, Presidential Management Staff; they are familiar names whose contribution to media, government finance and social welfares matters have gotten President elect BBM’s attention and trust leading to their appointments.
